Made to Serve - DST
Oceans of melanin hues,
Women as far as the eye could see,
Crimson and Cream drapes of our illustrious legacy,
Standing tall on the backs . . . of the historical 22,
Fortitude with each generation, always coming out brand new,
In 1913, when our founders stood up to such great pain and strife,
Wilson, another racist president wasn’t trying to make things go right,
Forcing our way amongst the suffrage, a place we knew we were called to see,
Holding the mantel of wisdom, for what Deltas would be known to be,
Black Codes, Jim Crow, Segregation, even Lynching never turned us away,
Soror Bethune set a standard for education which we hold high up until this day,
Soror Height marched on Washington, with Dr. King, letting no man stand in her path.
While Soror Tyson took on the big screen, playing dynamic roles through all of the wrath.
Soror Chisholm would run for the president while Soror Morrison would write us phenomenal books,
Soror Franklin, would belt out “Respect”, never letting the oppressor off the hook,
Soror Giaovanni, like soft wind brought us such profound poetry,
Soror Jordan took the political stage showing Stacy Abrams a way to victory,
Soror Shabazz left us way too early, giving us a guide of how powerful we can be,
Knowing we were “Made to Serve”, being all members of DST.
