She Made It Possible . . .

ED3C8166-240E-4D11-B75A-553D8A3346EA

One of my proudest moments as a Black Woman in America was to watch a television icon, that didn't look like Rihanna nor have the body of Cardi B. put thousands of Black Men through Morehouse College. Going to an HBCU myself, that meant something. She looked like my Auntie. She had big feet and a wide nose with coarse thick beautiful hair to match. Her undeniable melanin just made me all the more proud. More than her schools in Africa or her car give always, I felt a loyalty to Oprah Winfrey for making it and not forgetting about us; Black Queens.

Now breaking the barriers of "Power" translates differently for some of us but I saw Oprah Winfrey as making an Obama Era possible. And I never understood the cynics; the ones that criticized that it wasn't enough; that her legacy doesn't matter. The ones that aligned her with the white elite and as a sell out simply confused me.
