"Father Manifest"

Did you know that 40% of American children are in fatherless home?

Well in the African American community:

• ​Most black fathers live with their children.  There are about 2.5 million who live with their children, and 1.7 million who don't, according to the CDC.
  
• Black dads who live with their children are actually the most involved fathers of all, on average, a CDC study found.

What we generally see in the black community is single mother homes and that's where the statistics are based on which can reflect high numbers, however, we understand that even if the father does not live with the mother, the child is not fatherless.  

Now if we dig a little deeper in this subject, we see that true fatherless homes are a result of incarceration or men who choose to step away from their responsibilities.​  

I absolutely enjoy seeing men step up to be a father to those whose biological fathers are in situations where they are physically unable to be there for their children.  It's so comforting to see a young father walking down the street pushing a stroller!  Just a couple of weeks ago, a young family came to the laundromat and the way they both interacted with their daughter was priceless.

Black Kings, whether you are a father to your own or not.......I challenge you to be that "Uncle", "Godfather", "Spiritual Dad", "Stepdad", "Pops", etc. to a child who is "fatherless."  These young men and women need your presence!!
