We Have Leaders

I was just told City Councilwoman Renee' Perkins Johnson (District 4) spoke of our endorsement of her during the swearing in ceremony tonight in Charlotte. She gave us credit for being the first to endorse her when actually she was the first endorsement we ever made. My heart was so filled with joy when she won because it seemed that God was mending this political climate with such a compassionate, intelligent, consciously connected women. And although I was elated that she spoke of me (wow) during such a momentous moment, in actuality she spoke for all the women, men, disabled, impoverished, displaced and tired people in Charlotte that feel like they don't have a voice. I am truly honored to be mentioned but more proud that we still have bold people with integrity holding political offices. Councilwoman, that was more than just an act of kindness but a powerful statement that we in the community matter. The works of Harriett Tubman, Shirley Chisholm, Michelle Obama and so many more reflect on our beloved Councilwoman, Renee' Perkins Johnson. We have leaders.
