“A Taste of Power” - The Strong Peoples Party

ECF9A8A6-6521-4639-97A0-0D30B78DEA09

One of my favorite books of all times is “A Taste of Power” by Elaine Brown. It was the first book I read in undergrad and it shaped and molded me politically. And as I stood in this arena of Black Women for over 30 years, I finally see now that only WE can save us. Not the Republicans, nor the Democrats, or Independents, not the feminist, nor the LBGTQ community, not you white men, not Black Lives Matter, not the church, not Me Too and not you Black Man but WE. WE . . . the only creature that pushes 6 - 7 lbs out of our loins. WE, the one that let your white babies suck on our breast, while our men were terrorized on your plantations. WE, who allowed a white woman to lie on a black child and have him murdered. WE who sat before Supreme Justice’s showing the lies of likes of Clarence Thomas to not be believed. WE whose babies you have murdered. WE.
I recently had the disappointment of my life when yet another Black Man turned his back on me. Garcia Nelson is a political genius. Scattered brained at times but I was honored to work beside him. He knew how to gather people and when he asked me to work as a Freelancer on a campaign for a Republican I thought it was revolutionary and he was doing it for a come up.
Well how wrong I was when I realized this man was mixed up in plantation politics just like the rest of Charlotte. He hired 50 poll workers for Republican mayoral candidate  Stephanie de Sarachaga-Bilbao to work 13 days and she didn’t pay what she said she would, leaving mud in Garcia’s face. Five days into the project I fought Garcia unmercifully because I saw it coming. Lie, after Lie. Lateness after lateness. No God present. Her words, still bother me today. And still this Black man wanted to stand with this white woman and terminate my services putting a “cease and desist” on me.
I wanted to call Stephanie out at that point, sending Black grandmothers out in this Charlotte heat with no pay but so many still hadn’t been paid. Telling poll workers to play music and wear suits like Black people were her puppets, all for $20 an hour. Now I’m not from the South. I don’t “shuck or jive” ever. I’m not patient with the oppressor. So, this campaign let me go at the perfect time, cause at that point I began to organize. I knew no lawyer could save me. I prayed. I took counsel from 3 very different Black Men and my Black sister and mother. I got support from two of my white Sistahs ironically and 1 cousin. That’s it. The rest watched me as usual. Watched my unrest. Watched me beg for money to not have my car repo’ed. They didn’t read my articles. The rest looked at me like here she go again. A Black Woman got $75 from GoFund, from a white Sistah and my cousin. Other than that I heard crickets.
Well last night, Garcia called me with the grace of God, telling me he was hoodwinked, bamboozled. His apologies meant something because I accepted it as if it came from every Black man who hadn’t listened before, every rejection, every closed door. As Garcia scrambles for over 50 workers money, I said, “Can I take over” and to my surprise he said yes. Today we organize. Meeting at 5 pm at Hornets Nest Park, closest entrance. Every worker must get paid by us. Every worker needs to show up.  Please contribute. We need $30,000 before Monday!!!! Strong Peoples Party, EST. 2022.

What do we want?
• Raise $30,000 in 48 hours to pay those who were exploited by the STEPHANIE DE SARACHGA-BILBAO campaign, using GoFund.
• Provide legitimate employment opportunities that protect the freedoms of all people, with a minimum wage of $20 an hour.
• Demanding the Election Board take a clear look of the exploits perpetuated by some political candidates.
