Be Bold - Who is Rory Sheriff?

​If you know me, you know I love the arts. Being from NY, I’ve seen “Rent” on broadway, “Dreamgirls”, “Julius Caesar” with Denzel Washington, “Ragtime”, “Bring in the Noise, Bring in the Funk”, to name a few. I attended a performing arts high school with my daughter following in my footsteps here in Charlotte at Northwest School of the Performing Arts. And one of my biggest highlights this year was winning front row seats to see Hamilton thanks to my sister. With all of the drama and heartache going on in the world the arts has been a way of escaping all the noise. The arts can heal us.

Well, soon after Hamilton, I wasn’t going to throw away my “shot” and I made the bold move of making Playwrite/Director, Rory Sheriff my Facebook friend. I actually didn’t expect anything to come from it. I thought I would fall into the pile of trolls that I know seeks to know him. Now, in Charlotte, Sheriff is our local Spike Lee, Ava DuVernag or Ryan Coogler directing such works as “Boys to Baghdad”, “Two Trains Running” and now “Jitney” in which I will be front and center. He is the owner of BNS Productions. Well this man accepted my friend request and as I sought to write about him, he initially rejected my proposals. I didn’t care though because he was in my radar. 

Well last night I decided to inbox Mr. Sheriff once again but this time offering him my book. When he graciously accepted, I almost pead myself. I’m overjoyed where boldness can take you. He also has accepted an interview with Black Line. The arts is what has made me the passionate raging bull I am. We will fill the theatres supporting the fine work Sheriff does. “Jitney” auditions start tomorrow. What greatness we have right here in Charlotte. Be bold!!!
