Nazhir Taylor has died - A Saddened Community - Get Some Sensitivity CMS

F2B575B9-BD06-4D0C-9518-5D0B593F4CE2

**Please stop what you are doing and take 5 minutes to support my efforts as I advocate for this student and his family to be honored at Rocky River's High School graduation tomorrow, June 12th. at 12:00 pm 2023 - Bojangles Coliseum.**

Nahzir Taylor, who was a Rocky River High School Senior, was shot on November 22, 2022, after exiting a CMS school bus and fleeing from a group of students that he had an earlier altercation at the school. Nahzir was shot in the back as he attempted to run home and he died 3 days later at the hospital.

Nahzir's family was told that his father could stand in for him to accept his high school diploma and later that was retracted by CMS. Instead, CMS wants to place an empty chair where Nahzir would have been seated, filled with CMS memorabilia.

This is not what the family wants, they don't want a memorial and a painful reminder that their son is not graduating, they want his father to walk on his behalf and accept the diploma that Nahzir earned.

According to CMS, no policy in place prevents Nahzir's father from walking and accepting his son's high school diploma, it is just "their" practice to place an empty chair where the student would have been. Nahzir was in good standing with the school and expected to graduate in March of 2023.

I am asking that everyone who reads this post take the time to email CMS Superintendent Crystal Hill and CMS District 4 Representative Stephanie Sneed and ask them to show some empathy and compassion towards this deceased student and his family and allow his father the honor of walking and receive Nahzir's diploma.

All you have to do is copy and paste:

Subject Line: Nahzir Taylor

On behalf of the Charlotte Community, please allow Nahzir Taylors' father to walk and receive his son's high school diploma in his honor. Nahzir was a Rocky River High School student in good standing with CMS when his life was tragically taken. An empty chair is symbolic of Nahzir's passing; his father walking and accepting his high school diploma honors Nahzir's accomplishments during his short 17 years of life.

Thanks

I realize I am not ABC, CBS or NBC and that most pass my posts like I’m not saying anything but I will continue to write because we are talking about people and children, not numbers and statistics.
When Nazhir was shot last week exiting a CMS school  bus my heart grieved for several reasons. My 12 year old loves buses more than school itself and now that I am homeschooling/charter schooling him he is not able to ride one. No matter how bad his day was in school he was always excited to get on that bus. And then you ask me why I had to pull him out. I can’t take any chances with my only son. And once the news broke this story I was disgusted with CMS trying to remove themselves saying he was off of the bus when shot. How cold of you. I don’t care if he was in the house, watching TV, eating a bowl of cereal you were still a part of his day. Get your language together. And random or not, that was your student. I have seen the statement since his death and that tone should have started the conversation.
Yet and still, we lost a child, a young man that could have done great things. My condolences once again to the family. We have to change people’s hearts.
As the juvenile suspect has been apprehended, a bigger question lies. Why are these children killing.
