"Mugger's Marrow"

"Mugger's Marrow"
Growing up in a family that loves to cook, you always find yourself wanting to try something new. Whether it's a new recipe, a new seasoning, a new drink....in this case, it's a new sauce!

Today I had the opportunity to speak with Mr. Maurice Jenkins, the owner of Mugger's Marrow, LLC based in Connecticut. In 2015, Mr. Jenkins began his journey by simply "doctoring up" supermarket sauces that he would regularly purchase from a grocery store. He read the ingredients and noticed that there were a lot of unhealthy things in it. Mr. Jenkins wanted to develop a sauce that blended garlic, fruit and agave as well as an international blend of dry ingredients that gives it a sweet savory spicy kick. The first mixture was sampled at a friend's cookout and because he received such a great response, he dove deeper into his craft.

"Stick 'Em Up!" Grilling Glaze & Marinade is organically manufactured in New Haven, Ct and can be found at Elm City Market in New Haven, CT; Park City Cafe in Bridgeport, CT; Harbor Harvest in Norwalk, CT and Palmer's Market in Darien, CT. There are presently 4 flavors that are low in calories, sodium and sugar.

Nzuri Asha': "What made you choose the name "Mugger's Marrow"?"
Mr. Jenkins: "Well, I'm from Brooklyn, NY and one day I went out with my neighborhood friends to play pick up football. Instead of putting on a football jersey and pants, I was dressed in a blue knit sweater, blue jeans and a blue knit hat. There was this play where a very fast friend of mine was returning a kickoff and I snuck behind the blockers, came from left field and tackled him. As I was getting up and dusting myself off, one kid said, "It looked like he mugged him!" And another one said, "He looks like a Mugger too!!!" The name Mugger's Marrow is an homage to my youth."
Nzuri Asha': "Haha! That's different yet unique! For those who want to start a business such as yours, what advice do you have for the readers?"
Mr. Jenkins: "You have to find your passion and it can't be just to make money. Do something that is dear to your heart! Make sure you do your homework & take advice from those in similar industries. Don't be afraid to ask questions! Stay on course and embrace your struggle. There will definitely be struggles but be patient, learn from your mistakes! Don't make them too expensive."

Mr. Jenkins took a moment to explain a situation where he worked a trade show & the host over shot the amount of food needed for the event which resulted in wasted food. A portion of every new batch of "Stick 'Em Up!" is donated to local pantries and homeless shelters.

Nzuri Asha': "Thank You for taking the time to speak with me regarding Mugger's Marrow. Is there anything else you would like to add?"
Mr. Jenkins: "Yes; No one should be more passionate about your business except you and if they are, then that's a problem."
