We're Better Together!

Hosted by: The United Neighborhoods of Charlotte (UNNOC).

Charlotte Day was a refreshing reminder of the old days when everybody "use" to cruise through Freedom Park without a care in the world. As a Charlotte native, I was "taken back" with nostalgia of those shiny cars, loud motorcycles and bass in the trunks as if nothing had changed.

Although I was too young to really engage with the crowd during those years...I was right there on Sunday's with my older cousins. And Charlotte Day (8/18/19) was nothing less than what I had remembered. It just was a new upgraded version of how the community gathered together years ago.

As Larry Mims described the mission of UNNOC to me on "Pillow Talks", "its all about Peace, Positivity and Progression"!! This mass fellowship was created to support our communities in Charlotte against the epidemic of gun violence yet there was nothing but a feeling of love in the air. Balloons were released to pay homage to those lost. Book bag giveaway excited hundreds of children and local talents were on full display.

There was a call to Fantasia, Anthony Hamilton, Sunshine Anderson and Jodeci to show up and they came in full of life. They all were so humble and kind during my interaction with them. To hear the crowd sing in unity spoke volumes.

Now, how do we keep this momentum? We must continue to connect and unite by being one force here in Charlotte. We must charge the atmosphere by celebrating and educating our youth, promoting our businesses and galvanizing our leaders. We must read and report news effectively. Black Charlotte Day showed us we are ONE and we need to carry on in this excellence because we are better together.

Thank you!!!!
