It's Not Enough

Juneteenth is not only a day to celebrate but to commentate. Commentate the ancestors. And although 14 voted nay to such a holiday because of their denial of the American Holocaust, we are the patriots for not destroying a country that in its greatest move of evil left many Texans enslaved long after the so called Emancipation. Well now is the time to teach our children our heritage, our struggle and our triumph. But know symbolism is not enough. We need laws passed against voter suppression. We need bills signed for reparations. We need the disparities in our schools dismantled and the atrocities on our streets destroyed. We need to close the wealth gap and provide more opportunities to melaninated people. Although this jester is appreciated, it's not enough as Breonna Taylor's and George Floyd's are our dear sacrificial lambs. Yes, America's National Independence is the release of the last African descendants from chattel slavery. But just so you know America, Juneteenth is not enough.
