Dear “Just Being Nosy”,
I’m not ashamed of being deceived yet that is not the reason I will always be Dearest Price. I’m not crawling under a rock because a man don’t want me and I am certainly not conforming to Western culture that says you get your name back after you do me dirty. Naw, this name is mine and I came out of battle with it planted on my chest.
You see, one of the greatest sacrifices I made in my second marriage was giving up the name of my two children. I took pride in being a wife and not a "Baby Mama" as some say. I liked going to the schools saying we had the same last name, from the same tribe. And it was hard when Justus didn’t understand why my name wasn’t like his. So, when I became "Price", I swore to myself that would never change. I made the brutal sacrifice to cleave to my husband. I promised to never take my name lightly. And as I actually built my businesses, I branded that name. I authored with that name and I took it in my DNA.
Now, upon stepping away from my second marriage, people say I would change my name back. I say for what? I love my name. I did nothing shameful. It will be on my tombstone. I say the person, male or female that caused the spilt should have to change their name. And I believe in my case my former second husband should move like Prince and be "formerly known as". It seems real repressive for me to have to move out of my temple because an individual decides not to be with me.
