A Mighty Man of Valor

We are truly a nation divided; divided by race, divided by gender, divided by class, divided by religion, divided by sexual preference to name a few. And as we coexist in this great divide, there is often an anomaly of sorts; a place where everyone can go and agree that this shouldn’t be. That place was at the memorial service of Investigator Terrence Carraway today. We can all agree that he should still be with us. He existed in the space of both “Black” and “Blue”. He operated from a place that we can all learn from. He had integrity and as my inbox filled with stories from local Darlington and Florence residents, I realized that this was a man who was truly loved. Folks from both sides of the law expressed how he was fair. “He helped me get a job”, one source quoted. “He made sure I didn’t have no warrants”, another expressed. Founder of a camp, committed volunteer and a 30 year veteran of a profession that is not always revered in a positive light, Terrance Carraway was a mighty man of valor. If his legacy can leave us with anything, let it be that there are many phenomenal police officers of all races. Let his legacy be that those that live a life of service are our heroes. Let his legacy be that love comes in many forms. Rest in eternal peace Terrence Carraway. We will continue to speak your name.
