Why I Ran To Will . . . But Will Listen To Rock

E35CEEB2-4A51-4135-9392-D71CEA31CBD1

I immediately ran to Will Smith and not Chris Rock because although Rock was hit, it was Will who was damaged. It was Will that had a public melt down in front of the world. It was Will to act the monkey at an event that only a crumb of our people can even imagine being exposed to. It was Will who was the laughing stock at the Red Table and in my time was not a viable rapper up against the stuff I listened to. You saw a violent, Black Man emerged out of our Fresh Prince, while I saw a man destroyed from his own mind, his masculinity deleted by what you think or say about him. Few know that I was once married to a King of sorts and his fall led him in the Feds for over a decade. The look Will had on his face was the one I recognized so clearly. A shame that may never be repaired, a hurt that you look at as foolery yet I see as suicide.
I am tremendously proud of Rock, although many don’t want me to say it while dying I love Will because he could of pressed charges, fought back, acted the fool but he knew his boy was in trouble. He knew that wasn’t the man that he laughed with in former days. And just like an Elder of our culture who runs out with his mouth, he stood there, like a father. He continued on like a solider. He showed us who he was to our culture. He is the man who talked about Black Hair when nobody else did; it’s Chris Rock. And he is one of our greatest assets, a leader, a keeper of the culture, a man. I didn’t stand up for him because he didn’t need me to. In that moment he was better than all of us and that’s why Denzel and Tyler didn’t run to him. He was standing.  “No Black People”, we don’t need an enemy in this saga. We need to heal the hurt and raise the leaders. Chris Rock’s wealth will now do circles around Will Smith’s. Chris Rock’s importance will take another level. Chris Rock is what the Black Man is, as well as Will Smith who lost it but truly was trying to take away his wife’s pain.
