I Support Kap Because I Know It’s Just Business For Jay

Changing the guard and giving leadership to non-white men always has relevancy in the Black community. Yet we need to understand that everything we do as a people, serves a purpose in the ongoing fight towards or against our liberation and equality. This includes but is not limited to capalism, resistance and consumerism.

I offended a lot of readers with my piece “Jigga What”. The illustration was straight satire and the piece was written before Jay’s NFL deal was announced. Now, for those of you who call Jay ugly and make reference to camels when speaking about his apprerance, don’t come for me. I have no respect for your opinion. I write with integrity and wisdom and we have no time for minstrel or self degradation. My piece only dealt with greatness yet harshly questioned his motives.

I never truly expressed how I felt about him taking a stakehold in the league though. People came out in masses for me, inboxing me their disquietude about me speaking against their Hip Hop favorite. For the record, Jay is in the top three of my favorite artists too. His work with incarceration has warranted him great respect. His involvement with Khalil Browder case and now with Emmett Till series speaks volumes about his advocacy. But that does not take him off the hook when aligning himself with an organization that has perpetuated racism and divided a people based on the greed of capitalism. And we can’t forget that Jay wouldn’t have made it to the table without Kap. We can not forget how the league mocked Kap’s efforts to bring attention to police brutality. We can’t dismiss that he was black balled from football.

So now what? As consumers, we can put our dollars somewhere else. Push Master P to start our own league. As advocates, we can continue to take a knee and blackout the NFL until they fully acknowledge what we were kneeling for. Also demand Kap’s spot in football. As capitalist, we can invest in the NFL, once again start our own leagues and put pressure on the head, which is now Jay.

We should be at the table but we still must fight against systematic racism. And there is my answer. What we can not do is be divided.
