CIA Black Male Teachers on the RISE of 2019

 CIA Theme "Educators with Purpose"

Profound Gentlemen is a non-profit organization that started 3 years ago in the heart of Charlotte, NC by Jason Terrell and Mario Shaw. These two outstanding men were once male educators inside the classroom and wanted to generate a never-ending change in the community. This is the 4th CIA (Community Impact Assembly) event, which is an annual event they host. This brings males of color across the world to collaborate, share and learn from each other. CIA is a retreat-style conference that involves much engagement and activities. This year we had over 200 males attend the conference from 18 states. We as male educators were able to walk away with resources to continue educational development, self-reflection and relationship building. 

now through studies and research that Black Male educators are 5x more likely to leave the field of Education amongst other professions. Throughout this event, participants were able to further impact the communities they are serving. In particular, how Black male teachers can improve educational opportunities and outcomes for Black boys. "Our work is purposeful" as stated by Jason Terrell. PG believes that when someone knows why they are in the space, they will act differently. The organization supports Black male teachers and helps them to serve their purpose. This helps more Black boys meet their full potential and act with a sense of urgency and intentionality. 

In the years to come, we can expect far more great things from Profound Gentlemen and more black male educators.
