As teenagers, how should we make big decisions that determine our future? For me, my ultimate “go to” is the classic buzzfeed quiz. However, after being faced with my first extreme delima, I found myself stuck. After taking much advice and listening to what my family and friends had to say about the matter, I have come up with 5 steps to solve our big decisions in life:

1) Do what will make you happy.
If you've ever watched any type of drama or romance movie, you've most likely witnessed the stubborn protagonist that chose their career over finding love, and almost risked being sad and alone for the rest of their life. Yeah, don't let that be you. Adults are constantly discussing their teenage years. Teens hear how much experience their parents had and all the trouble they got into. Being generation z, we may not have the exact same opportunity. Growing up surrounded by climate change, police brutality, school shootings, discrimination, sexual violence, and all of the other problems were left to deal with, there isn't much time to go out and have fun it seems. Our lives are especially short saying as climate change will be irreversible in 11 years. Take a risk for once and do what will ultimately bring you the most joy. Success is not happiness. The idols that we look up to for having the most money and materialistic items are not the happiest people in our lives.
2) Consider how your decision will affect those closest to you.
Although the most important person in our lives should be ourselves, we also must
consider the happiness of those we care about the most. If you're making a decision that you know will result in your happiness yet another's pain, it's important to evaluate every aspect of that choice. I recommend making a Pros and Cons list. We always have to be careful of who we hurt, otherwise we may risk losing those we love.
3) Take your own advice over others.
Horoscope is a huge thing for teenagers today. Personally, being a libra or the indecisive sign, I take advice from every single person I know. This can be a very bad thing because not only am I telling my business to people who don't know how to keep their mouth shut but I'm also being given very different advice from each person I talk to. Now I'm not saying don't ask for help. Communication is a step in itself, but letting others make a decision for you, is not a solution. Your gut feeling is always the right answer. We are the ones that must deal with the consequences of the choices we make in life. We are truly the only ones who know what's best for us. Listen to your heart and you head and then your gut, if you do, I can promise you the best end result.
4) Don't rush your decision.
There is not a gun being pointed to your head. Do not give in to the pressure of others, risking making a rash decision. Make sure you consider every possible outcome of your choice and take as much time as you need to think. Some people spend their whole lives regretting a choice they made because they wanted to get it over with. Think of it this way, the best art we see in our life was not made overnight. Our favorite songs were not written in an hour. The greatest athlete there is didn't get where they are by simply doing it. There is work and thought, time and dedication, put into every aspect of our lives. Especially our decisions now.
5) Try not to overthink.
It is important to consider every aspect of a choice. Yet, don't let it drive you insane. We're allowed to make mistakes, go through with bad decisions, and learn from them. Don't overthink the choice and don't stress the result. Live it and grow.
By following these five steps, you will have the ability to solve any problem you face. There will be many decisions in life, you now have the key to become an expert at making them. Good luck.
