Enough Is Enough - Mommy Mega March

All I could do is think about my son as we marched the streets of Charlotte on this rainy second day of 2021. I know that sounds selfish but those were my thoughts as we made our way down 3rd Street to the BLM Uptown. We chanted, “Enough is Enough” with the young people. I could not imagine a worst fate than the one these mothers had of losing a child. Yet they walked hand in hand with those who were not living such a nightmare; graciously, kind, compassionate in the “Mommy Mega March”. I was surprised so few showed up. I myself had missed many of these events in my own state of believing that I had it bad but nothing is worst than this. Every mother in Charlotte should have been there. Every person with a child needs to care.
And then Sevhn Doggette with her son’s urn in hand spoke. I was forever changed by her message which clearly voiced that we can no longer afford to loose our children to gun violence. She said every mother that lost a child to murder will now be forced to serve a life sentence of pain. And that no individual who commits such an act should ever receive bond. Senseless murders in Charlotte have become common place as we already peaked an all time yearly record of 125.
I will be at the next rally. I will use my pen to feature these hero’s in our community. I was honored to tell some of the mothers that I was so inspired by them, that I was so sorry for their pain but they are definitely God’s vessels to be able to walk on this rainy Saturday.
I will not call out those that were not there because I once sat on my sofa and just watched. Now I will advocate against such terror that has infected our communities. Now that I know, I must show up and that goes for every community leader, politician, clergy and activist.  I leave with the words that Ms. Sevhn said so eloquently, “If you love your mother don't put her through this. This is a life sentence for us and we didn't even commit a crime. Don’t talk to me about Black Lives Matter when Black Lives don’t matter to Black Lives.” I will be at the next rally.
