Jorge L. Millares - Doing the Work

I had the great pleasure of meeting Jorge L. Millares last week. Just by request he met me at Queen’s Coffee Bar. I was a few minutes late but he greeted me with a smile that told me off the bat that he was for the people. I explained to him the premise behind Black Charlotte; that “Black” is the essence of all colors and that it is a multicultural movement to elevate melaninated people. Well, as he enthusiastically agreed, I was ready to do my very first political interview.

Now, one blog will not tell all the greatness of this man but hopefully will start a conversation of Brown and Black people actively researching the candidates. I can say he is a visionary. He is more interested in serving the people then doing photo opts and speeches. So, unlike most people I interview, I forgot to take his picture. I found a good one to compliment this blog.

Jorge is a candidate for Charlotte City Council at Large. I started my questions with what does this role entail? He explained what the role is and then continued with what he wanted to see the role as. “City Council works on zoning, city services and oversees city management. It also deals with the Economic Mobility Inequalities of the City”. Jorge is committed to dealing with generational proverty. He believes the role of City Council should expand to supporting small businesses and collaborating with the City, School and the County.

Jorge supports vocational training, immigration reform and the importance of affordable housing for Charlotte citizens. This man is doing the work. In an effort to avoid displacement of homeowners, he works on bridging the gap with businesses and the community. Check this man out and make sure you vote for the candidate that is going to make a change. Jorge L. Millares, Candidate for City Council at Large
