Is the Grand Market Place Deliberately Pushing Businesses Out?
One year ago developers had plans of turning the market place into a warehouse distribution site, but was met resistance from business owners, community, and township counsel alike. Whatever the plans may have been, it wasn't in the best interest of the Willingboro community. Businesses would have to relocate; the community would lose its hidden gems of shops and retail stores; Willingboro in general could lose their part of economy that benefits its residents. The Grand Market Place is the only place where residents of the community can not only shop, but have an opportunity to open up a small business to contribute to stability of the township's economy. So after six months of new ownership and after some investigation (some because we are still unable to reach the owner for comment and a chance to defend him/herself) it reveals that possible business owners looking to rent space are being turned away by price inflations; trash pickup has been reduced, some owners even say it's been several weeks since they last saw an exterminator. Just walking around the Market Place one can easily speculate that it's only a matter of time before all businesses are forced to closed their doors due to building negligence, and gross business decision making. Let's not forget that the parking lot is a disaster that should've been easily fined by the township. In all fairness let's hope this owner is different from the rest. But pictures speak for themselves.
The Parking Lot Issues
Available Space! Are the Price Inflations the Reason for Ghost town
From Spaces being used as storage, to space actually being available, to reduced trash pickups and exterminator visits, to poor rule enforcement of stores being open consistently. The Grand Market Place looks to become a ghost town. Is a strategic business move to get the remaining businesses to fail and/or be forced to relocate, so the owner (Grand Market Place) wouldn't have to pay for the relocation of failing businesses? Instead of giving The Grand Market Place the attention to its beneficial possibilities that it could serve to its community, it's looks like a long white-collar con game. It is said the within this first full year of new ownership, the owner still haven't met with its tenants. But definitely has someone there in a timely fashion and deliberate manner to collect rent. I think it's time for town council to get involved, one full year no improvements of any kind were made. The building looks to be taken care of just enough for foot traffic. Business owners in the Grand Market Place deserves better, let's hope this article reaches our councilmen/women.
