Lauryn Hill killin’ it in her cult classic “X-Factor”, gave new meaning to the word “Reciprocity”, for me. “Tell me, who I have to be? To get some reciprocity. See no one loves you more than me and no one ever will”. Wow!!!!!
That changed the game in my relationships, my jobs, my faith, my mind and this journey called entrepreneurship. Ok, let me first break it down. What is the definition of reciprocity? “It is the practice of exchanging things with others for mutual benefit, especially privileges granted by one country or organization to another”, according to Google.
We serve a God that lives by reciprocity, #periodt. 99.9% of the time when you go to sleep, you “eventually” wake up. Such reciprocity is natural order. If you plant in the earth, you bear fruit; reciprocity. And my all time favorite, as long as we breathe it, the air is not denied. The list goes on; the sun, the rain, the flowers all are our benefits if we mutually give back. If we water, take care of the planet, God just keeps giving. But that’s God, a source like no other.
Man on the other hand is different, difficult, deceptive and delusional. I say different than God because as natural as reciprocity is in the universe it is complicated in the earth. Maybe it’s capitalism or plain greed. Maybe we are just selfish and lack empathy. Maybe we are user and lack love. I don’t know but we must make it a requirement because it’s the natural order.
My faith is confident with reciprocity but I don’t want to talk about relationships and jobs with it because I have a pretty bad track record.
