Dear Sheriff McFadden,

It has been a trying 2 years and most don’t know how I know you. You probably don’t remember me either but I will never forget you. I cried on your shoulder being too afraid to press charges against my abuser but I did. People like you make us small people less afraid.

I just recently came from Charleston and the Sheriff there gave rave reviews about you. How the heck would a Sheriff all the way in Charlestown tell me such? Nothing but God. I kept her business card just to show you, knowing no one would believe me. Your words and comfort empowered me to get through and on the 25th I had the final court date and every thing was dismissed. The abuse was dismissed. The trauma was dismissed. Your words of encouragement were dismissed.
I wasn’t able to read my survivors statement or tell about the champions that have led me to do such great work. I cried a river for a full 10 hours until I was asked to speak at an Allisha Watts Press Conference, a young woman who is missing. I shouted your name because you are Charlotte’s Obama. I shouted your name because you would solve this but after I was done I was nudged in disdain that you were not in charge. Well then one by one the criticism came about calling out your name. You are in my survivor’s statement and just know I was not saying your name in shame. You just have always been the one person that Black Women could call. I’m sorry if I offended you. I just had to say your name.
Hope to have lunch and give you this business card.

Best regards,

Dearest
